About Our Blog

Why Do We Even Have a Blog?

It's not a teaching blog. Other than a two-day ASA 101 class we took together three years ago, we had never been on a sailboat. But now we own a used Catalina 42 and are attempting to learn to sail her while living aboard. In other words, we don't know anything, so if you've stumbled upon our page hoping to find some sage advice you are probably not going to find it here.

This is certainly not a money-making blog. We might have three readers on a common day and two of them are probably our moms, but that's okay, were not trying to make a living at this. So, the good news for you is that we are not going to be asking you to buy any merchandise, shop our links, or purchase us a 'cup of coffee'.

Why blog then? We started this blog to keep track of our experiences for ourselves and give any friends and family who might be interested enough to wonder what we are up to a way to keep tabs on our journey. And because we live on a boat. What else are we going to do between boat projects and sailing lessons?

“But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.” Isaiah 59:2

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

We are redeemed. Thankfully, because God loves us, He made a way for us to be reconciled to Him through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus paid our debt with His own shed blood on the cross. We were dead and condemned in our sin with no hope of ever earning or deserving forgiveness, but God offers it to us. And He gives it freely through His Son to whoever will come to Him.

“In Him, we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” Ephesians 1:7

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of His blood-to be received by faith.” Romans 3:23-25

We are Spirit filled. He has filled us with His Spirit which makes it possible to lead a God honoring life. Does it mean we are perfect? No, we are in the process of sanctification where, through the work of the Holy Spirit, we grow and mature in our faith. We are thankful that we serve a God who is merciful and faithful to forgive us of our sins when we ask with repentant hearts.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

“In Him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in Him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of His glory.” Ephesians 1:13-14

We are heaven-bound. God promises that as his children we are not only reconciled to Him here and now, but that we will spend eternity with Him in heaven. That hope keeps us going even in the toughest of times.

“And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12

“For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to His own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we might become heirs to the hope of eternal life.” Titus 3:3-7

We hope that if you are reading this, you too know the unfailing love and unending mercies of our Heavenly Father. But if you are suffering from the anxiety, hopelessness and purposelessness that comes from living in a broken world, separated from a relationship with the One who created you, then our prayer is that you would seek to know Him.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord., “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13

About Us

What can we tell you about ourselves? Well, if you want to know how our journey started you can read about it here. But if you want to know the only important thing about us, read on!

We are redeemed sinners, born again, spirit filled, heaven bound believers in Jesus Christ - our Lord and our Savior.

Simply put, it means that we were once trapped in our sins, separated from God and headed in the wrong direction. But because of His unfailing love for us, we were rescued and redeemed by Jesus Christ who paid the ransom for our freedom with His life, settling our debt in full and giving us a fresh start with a new identity as a child of God. It is the beginning of a new, personal relationship with our God based not on our merit but on His mercy.
